Commissioners Forum

I’m not sure how the forum is supposed to work or how a discussion is started, but thus far there seems to be little activity.

As citizens, maybe we aren’t prompting proper discussions.

I for one would like to see a discussion on debt.

A) Do you believe the county has a debt issue?
B) If so, would it be your position to increase taxes or make government cuts to handle the cost of the debt?

I want to know what Brad Harrison's going to do, now that Jay Leno's taken over his spot on The Tonight Show.

Well let's see just how will Jerry Fancy-Pants Cunningham make cuts??? He created meaningless jobs and hired relatives and friends and friends kids. Hmmmm think those will be cut?? Triple and quadruple the costs of building permits.... Hey we can actually make money for the county; but we can always say that that department is costing the county too much so we will do-away with it. But please make sure that you hurry and finish up building the Taj-mahal animal shelter. Proud very proud JC will be to have his name on that plaque.
Schools make a cut?? Heck they always got what they wanted and money wasn't the issue. So they made alot of cuts, yes. But they were so sitting pretty with all the nice "necessities" that now they made those cuts to save money.... DUH. Refridgerators in every room!! Heck go for the snack machines in everyroom... Costs money to run those machines. Alil laziness doesn't make up for the cost of having the nice necessities. People have been too accustomed on having all these items that they cannot do the work without each having one. This isn't just going for the schools and classrooms but county-wide.
Even at our own homes. We do it. Like a buddy told me, everyone needs to come down a notch on thier lifestyles. We as taxpayers need to strongly remind that to every commissioner and mayor and school board? But we have to show that we are saving money by stating and showing all the cuts. Yes it is great and a wonderful start. But did we actually really need "necessities" to start with? If they kept all that extra money and put it back into the kitty, we wouldn't be needing to raise taxes. "We need to spend it or we will lose that money". crock of crap. So they spend it on those nice-want-to-have items. Can't wait until we have to pay for JC's and JD's grandkids new school needs to open and all the nice-want-to-have items that they already have planned.

So they made alot of cuts, yes. But they were so sitting pretty with all the nice "necessities" that now they made those cuts to save money.... DUH.

They have also utilized contests for classroom electronics, cut $135K worth of eletricity and called in an outside auditor.

Does the school system have waste on things some might see as unneeded, sure, they're a government entity. No element of government doesn't have waste.

The question is, what are all other departments in Blount doing to make cuts?

If they don't find them, and expect to raise taxes without giving them up, the bastille may get stormed.

My point was made.
Everyone needs to come down a notch on thier lifestyles.
Will it happen? Hope so. Everyone should not just government. Don't see O'bama doing it! He has done the opposite. Fly in more people for hotdogs and beer to the White House. Why give Haiti all that money and not care for all the people out of work from lost jobs? Just a start KPA, just a start.

People's lifestyle choices should be left to them. But if they buy more than they can afford, that's their own fault. Government ought not to be in the business of bailing out individuals or corporations.

Obama is spending too much. But that should have been expected. Dems traditional role has been the gas, Republicans were the brakes.

Since Reagan, it's been the Republicans that have acted more like a stuck Toyota gas pedal when it comes to "growing" government. Don't blame Democrats for being Democrats. They believe government can work. It's the Republicans who believe it doesn't work - but keep growing it anyway.
